How and where to get a residence permit?

After an online application is made through e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr, you must visit the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in the province where the university is located on the day of appointment, together with the required documents.

Where can I find a list of the documents required for a residence permit?

After students complete their applications on e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr, the required documents are specified on their application form. It is also located in the requested documents section on the e-residence system screen. Detailed information about the documents can also be obtained by calling YİMER – 157.

How and where can I get information about my residence permit and residence permit application status?

You can get information by going to the Provincial Migration Administration Directorate in the province where your university is located or by calling YİMER -157.  

When should an application be made for an extension of the current residence permit?

Extension applications can be made from 60 days before the expiration of the residence permit and under any circumstances must be made before the expiration of the residence permit. Applications for renewal of residence permits are made to through the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in the province where the university is located, together with the required documents, by making an appointment at e-ikamet.gov.tr.  

Are there any sanctions if I am unable to attend my appointment on the day at the provincial immigration administration?

Your application will not be processed. If your residence permit is still valid, you will be able to make a new appointment. However, if your residence permit has expired, you will be in violation of residence.

Is the residence book fee (document fee) for the residence permit application covered by YTB / Türkiye Scholarships?

The YTB cannot residence book fee (document fee) payments made by our students during the residence extension application. 

I applied for residency. Can I travel abroad during the evaluation process?

A residence permit application document is issued by the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management on the day of the appointment of our students who have applied. In order to leave the country, this document must be approved by the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. The approved copy of the application document provides our students with the right to exit and enter the country, provided that they return within a period of 15 days.  

Can I apply for a residence permit at the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in a different province?

According to the law, student residence permit applications can only be submitted to the Provincial Migration Administration Directorates in the province where the university is located. A student residence permit application cannot be submitted to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in a different province. 

How many days is allowed for missing documents?

Provincial Migration Administration Directorates may allow up to 30 days to complete the missing documents. If the missing documents are not completed and delivered to the Provincial Migration Administration Directorate on time, your application will be removed from processing. 

Can I apply for residence with an expired passport?

According to the law, a residence extension application cannot be made with an expired passport.  

I travelled abroad while I had a residence permit, but my residence permit expired before my return, can I extend my residence permit while abroad?

According to the law, residence permit applications cannot be received abroad. Students whose residence permit expires while they are abroad will be able to enter country according to the visa regime between the two countries.  

I have two different YU (Foreign National) numbers, what should I do?

You have to visit the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in the province where your university is located and apply for your duplicate YU numbers to be combined.
